Threadfin Shad

Threadfin Shad is an important forage species for sport fishes in large rivers and reservoirs. It is not as tolerant of cold water as Gizzard Shad (not present in Melones). 

description To 9" (23 cm). Deep, moderately compressed. Back gray to green; sides silvery; belly white; humeral spot large, black; all fins except dorsal fin yellowish. Head small; mouth small, terminal; no notch on ventral edge of upper jaw. Dorsal fin small, origin slightly posterior to pelvic fin; last dorsal fin ray greatly elongate, reaching near caudal fin base; anal fin short, with 17–27 rays
